Just another WordPress.com weblog about Nature and Wildlife

Black & White Warbler

I have had some different birds stop over in my big backyard Oaks and Hickories recently.  I have never seen these birds and had to look them up online.  I am not totally sure if they are Black and White Warblers or not but I think they may be.  If they are, they are migrating from other parts of Tennessee and will be on their way in the coming few weeks.  The Warblers are insect eaters and these birds have habits very similar to the White-Breasted Nuthatches.  They sort of scoot along the tree trunks and limbs and flit around to perch on branches.  Please click on the thumbnail version to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. Those are really pretty. I’m not familiar with them but a bird book that we have has photos of the Black and White Warbler and it looks exactly like the ones in your photos.

  2. Those are really cute little birds. I have never seen one.

  3. I cannot tell any of the warblers apart, but this is sure black and white colored, so that makes it a black and white warbler!

    • Hi Ginny, This little Black & White Warbler was the first I have ever seen. A website run by the State of TN has a picture and a bit of information. These birds are mostly migratory here where I live so I don’t expect to see them a lot.

  4. Yes, they are appropriately called: “Black-and-white Warblers”…. VERY pretty. I haven’t noticed any here–but the Grosbeaks should be here soon –as they migrate south.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
