Just another WordPress.com weblog about Nature and Wildlife

These images are fresh from my camera this very morning.  When I went outside on my back deck this morning to take some pictures, I was so happy to see a lot of birds.  I saw a number of birds such as a Pileated Woodpecker, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Bluebird, Eastern Blue Jays, Mourning Dove, Carolina Chickadees, and White-Breasted Nuthatches.  I also noticed that the Grey Squirrels and Chipmunks were busily harvesting acorns, seeds, and berries.  On the lake, I took a couple of pictures of a female (hen) Wood Duck.  That Wood Duck soon noticed me, and flew off as fast as her wings could fly!  The Wood Ducks are ever-so-shy.  Fall is definitely here as you can see from all the gorgeous colors in the leaves here.  This explosion of color just really happened in the past week.  I am enjoying the colors while I can as the leaves are falling fast.  Please click on the thumbnail version to see the larger photo.  Enjoy!

  1. What a nice collection this morning! I enjoy checking your blog and seeing your recent visitors. We enjoy our visitors too and consider them the very finest form of entertainment around! This morning here it was mother turkey and her seven babies (who are nearly as big as she is now). The colors there are good to see too.

    • Hi Montucky, We are so lucky here to have the amazing numbers and variety of the wildlife that we do. This morning after I posted, I looked out the window and saw a trio of Crows in the Oak where the Woodpeckers and Blue Jays were feasting about an hour earlier. Must be tasty worms in all those acorns!

Have a super Sunday and coming week!

  2. What a great shot of the pileated pecking that tree! And you caught the bluejay with his mouth open to pluck that berry! And the leaves behind the Chickadee are so dappled, maybe prettier than the bird!! Wonderfil fall bird pics!

    • Hi Ginny, Thanks! I was happy to see and photograph the big bird this morning. Readers here know how enthralled I seem to be with any and all Woodpeckers!
      Have a fantastic day!

  3. Lots of beauty–right here in the Glade, Linda… We drove down to Fall Creek Falls today to meet some family for dinner at the state park… The colors were so pretty –but no water in the waterfalls much.

    Thanks for the great pictures.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Beautiful photos. I especially like the one of the squirrel and the pileated woodpecker. Pretty amazing.
