Blue Jays in the Rain

We had several soggy days here in Cumberland County, Tennessee last week.  I was out with the camera and shot some pictures of Eastern Blue Jays perched in the Oak tree and also foraging for a few tasty worms in the grass.  Blue Jays like eating from the ground.  They are especially fond of earthworms and lawn grubs.  They have sharp eye-sight and quick reflexes.  Even though the jays can be noisy at times, I sure do like seeing the lovely blue, white and black medium-sized birds here!  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. I know some people don’t like blue jays, but I always enjoy seeing their bright blue on dreary days!

  2. I like the bluejays, even though they scare my little birds away they are fun to have around. Great captures.

  3. Oh, great pics! I hope you get more sunshine this week.

    • Hi Two Bears, Yes, I hope so but it is not going to happen in the next several days. We are in for some 2″ of rain in the coming days. I sure do enjoy bird watching and just love my new property and home! I am happy you are commenting and like the blog. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. they do brighten up the gray days! i like them foraging in my oak trees for the worms inside the acorns. 🙂

  5. Now this is a bird we see a lot of right now. They gorge on our peanuts. We had quite a rivalry, if you want to call it that, earlier. The immature house sparrows kept taking the peanuts, but never eating them. They just dropped them everywhere. I wonder if this was in retaliation for all the times the Blue Jays came in and scared the other birds off. 😀 Very nice pictures you got. Does your lawn stay green all year. Most of ours is turning into winter brown.

    • Hi Birding Bunch, As for the color of the lawn pasture – I am not sure as we have only lived here a month. I am guessing that it is a mixed grass here and will likely be green unless snowed upon. Yes, the Blue Jays do love those peanuts! Have a super afternoon and evening!

  6. The Jays always liven things up, don’t they!

    • Hi Montucky, The Blue Jays seem to be a lively bunch! They are pretty much the same in all regions – even if different types of Jay! Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening!

  7. They are bold and noisy bully birds, but beautiful nonetheless. Just goes to show you can’t tell a bird by it’s feathers…
