Just another WordPress.com weblog about Nature and Wildlife

Yesterday, I showed a photo of a White-breasted Nuthatch that I saw in the Oaks near where the Red-bellied Woodpeckers were.  I took these pictures during that same time.  The little Nuthatch was chattering away.  Apparently the Nuthatch was conversing with other Nuthatches nearby or maybe it was talking or trying to talk with the Woodpeckers.  Who knows?  I am betting that it was calling its mate in another nearby tree (I did not hear others or see them but likely they were around).  Birds tend to flock together even if only in very small groups.  Safety in numbers is the key.  I was glad to see the birds on that rainy afternoon.  It rained hard yesterday and I did not see any birds but for a trio of Crows.  So, here are the pictures of the little Nuthatch.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

not much bigger than a thumb, but full of so much spirit. 🙂

    • Hi Texwisgirl, You are right! I saw a White-breasted Nuthatch in the Oaks today in my old backyard. I snapped a few pictures which will eventually find their way here. Have an excellent day today! I plan to post pictures of geese tomorrow and take Christmas day off from the blog.

  2. You sure have a nice variety of birds in the winter. We had about 50 birds in our feeding area this morning, but all sparrows and finches. Our nuthatches haven’t been around lately.

    • Hi Montucky, Sparrows have occasionally been seen here at my new place but they tend to be in the gulch woodland patch and are seldom around out and about when I have a camera in my hand. I have only seen that one pair of House Finches but may have Goldfinches here in the Spring and Summer. I took pictures at my lake house today of Buffleheads, Mallards, and various geese and will show the photographs of the geese here tomorrow. I am taking Christmas day off. Have a wonderful day and enjoy those beautiful scenic views you have!

  3. I have never heard a nuthatch make any sound, sadly!

  4. Great pictures, Linda…. As I have said many times, I just love those little guys..

  5. The nuthatches are cuties, you do see some great birds there.

  6. I’ve been lax about keeping my feeders filled this winter–but I finally refilled them all this morning and was rewarded with lots of nuthatches, chickadees, and gold finches showing up.
