There are Grey Squirrels that live in trees in the small gulch at the end of the property here on the little farm. I don’t see the squirrels very often. Every once in a while, a squirrel will run as fast as possible across the grassy shoreline of the pond and over to one of the large Oak Trees. This is a distance of nearly a quarter-mile. The squirrels still have a few acorns around to tempt their palates.
I saw one such squirrel here on Jan. 28, 2012. The squirrel was sitting up in that classic squirrel pose, eating an acorn. After a few moments, off the squirrel sprinted! Perhaps the local Red-tailed Hawk was out and about? Who can say? In any event, that squirrel lost no time in running across the large open area between the Oaks and that heavily wooded gulch. I was happy to see the squirrel but do hope that it and its friends and family will stay away from my newly installed bird feeder! Ha! Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.
