Just another WordPress.com weblog about Nature and Wildlife

Canada goslings have hatched yesterday here on the shore of the little farm pond!  Hooray!  Mama and Papa goose took the babies out for a walk and breakfast yesterday late in the morning.  I took these pictures from a long distance so as to not disturb the new family.  As best as I can tell, there are seven little ones.  They won’t be able to fly for another three months so they will be waddling and paddling around the pond.  When the goslings get a bit older, the family may make the trek down the long driveway and across the street to the little private community lake down the hill.  That would be a long haul for the babies but sometimes geese are pretty athletic.  I am thrilled to have seen the new arrivals!  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. So there are seven? I could count about five I think… Great pictures. Mom and Dad look so proud as they strut along…. Thanks for sharing…

    Congrats for the new babies!!!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

    • Hi Betsy, I took the pictures from a long way away. Cropped some of the shots so as to better show the little ones. Also a straggler and one almost under another. They sort of balled up and then waddled around – parents had to corral them at one point when they did not walk lined up as they should between the adults. They will learn fast. Have a wonderful day!

oh my gosh. these photos are adorable! 7! that’s a lot! i hope they make it!

    • Hi TexWisGirl, Yes the group are so sweet and adorable. I thought seven was a big clutch to hatch out, too. I also hope all goes well for the little fluff-balls. Soon they will start looking gaggle goose-like. I like the yellow puffy state best : ) Have a fine day today!

  3. Such cute little balls of fur, with all the yellow on their heads.

    • Hi Ginny, The goslings are adorable. The family has moved to another spot. I have not seen them today at all. Maybe they are on the other shore or even in the cow pasture over there. Who knows? I also have a Kildeer nesting in the grass (hubby won’t mow there until nesting is over) near my driveway and near the gulch. Have a super great day!

  4. Very pretty family! Yes, the adults do look proud of their new family. Geese are good parents too and a force to be reckoned with in defense of the young.

  5. So completely sweet! I’ve seen several canadian geese families myself this past week. One of perks of driving through the country all day long!

  6. awww, fer cute!
