A Couple of Cardinals

Northern Cardinals have been living in the grove of trees next to the pond this season.  I often see the male at the feeder and am now occasionally seeing the female there at the feeder as well. The cardinals really love Sunflower seeds and also Millet. The male is the one with the bright red feathers and black mask on its face over the eyes.  The female is a reddish-brown with a faint darker brown mask on her face.  It is now nesting season so in coming weeks we surely will be seeing juveniles with the devoted parents.  I took these pictures on April 30, 2012, May 3, 2012, and again on May 8, 2012 in my yard.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

    • Hi Ginny, Yes, the Northern Cardinals really excite me – nearly as much as the woodpeckers do. Have a super nice day and a great weekend! I hope you are feeling better!

  3. You are so fortunate to be able to watch them through their nesting period! What a pretty pair!

    • Hi Montucky, I am always amazed at the big variety of birds and numbers of different wildlife here. I love the area and especially this little place. Have a great day tomorrow!
