Male Red-Winged Blackbird

Here are a few pictures of a variety of birds that have been coming to the bird feeder here.  I often see the Red-Winged Blackbirds, and the Red-Headed Woodpecker comes about twice a day to snatch a yummy sunflower seed or a bit of corn.  I took these pictures from my living room window on various days in the past month here.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

still wish we had redheads here. 🙂 but we have a pair of painted buntings again – do you get those? 🙂

  2. Hi Linda, I sometimes (not often) see Red-winged Blackbirds around the golf course fairway –but none near our house or the feeders. All of the other birds you mentioned are regulars.

I sat outside this morning and watched a Male Downy feed one of this little ones… TOO CUTE.

    Happy Sunday.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

    • Hi Betsy, How cute! I seldom see any woodpeckers other than the Red-Headed and the Red-Bellied – used to see Flickers but I think they are nearby but not competing with the
“Reds”. Blackbirds all over the place and same with Cowbirds and Starlings. Big wide-open fields encourage the flocking birds. Have a great day and you may want to keep an eye on the weather as we have had a couple of downpours here (needed though). Have a great day!

  3. I just love the Redheaded Woodpecker. I am envious, I would love the see the redheaded woodie in my yard. Can you see him/her up here? Thanks, have a happy Sunday!

    • Hi Eileen, Cornell Lab of Ornithology web site says yes for your vicinity so who knows, maybe several will visit in your neighborhood. I hope so! Have a great day tomorrow and a good coming week!

  4. I have never seen a red winged blackbird on a feeder…too wild. Not to mention a red headed woodpecker on a feeder!

    • Hi Ginny, Yes, this feeder is hugely popular. My theory is that I have one of the only feeders around in this neighborhood so the birds all are enjoying the freebies! Ha! Have a fantastic Monday tomorrow!

  5. We have an occasional Finch at our feeder too. THis month we have had a lot of Grosbeaks and some Crossbills!

    • Hi Montucky, I have never seen a Grosbeak or a Crossbill. I have been told that both birds are around in the county here at times so I am hopeful of seeing one. Glad you are having Finches at your feeder. They are neat little birds! Have a fabulously nice Monday and coming week!
