Just another WordPress.com weblog about Nature and Wildlife

I am so happy that we have had a steady series of visits by the Great Blue Herons here.  I took these pictures in my yards on June 25, 2012, June 26, 2012, and again on July 1, 2012.  The herons usually keep to the far shore where the cow pastures are but occasionally the big birds will come over to this side of the pond.  The picture where the heron was under the Oak was taken on such an occasion.  The cows were near the shoreline and some of the cows were even wading in the pond to keep cool.  We had several days of hot weather with temperatures in the very high 90’s and low 100’s (F.).  The yards here were getting very dry and brown due to a drought we had been under here.  Last night we had a series of strong thunderstorms (no damages here) and got a great soaking rain that was very appreciated!  The Great Blue Herons are around the pond where it is cool and they can find food.  I enjoy seeing these large wading birds!  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. It’s so good to see them! That pond and the creatures that visit it is a real treasure!

    • Hi Montucky, That is true! The pond is so nice to watch the birds and animals and just a nice view from the house, too. Have a super great holiday tomorrow!

    Congrats on the rain!

    • Hi TexWisGirl, Thanks for that thought. Yes, we are happy to have the downpour last night. Have a great evening tonight and a nice holiday tomorrow!

  3. We seem to miss a lot of the storms, having them go around us for some reasons. I think we could use the rain. Love your GB heron shots.
