Just another WordPress.com weblog about Nature and Wildlife

The Great Blue Heron has been here at the pond almost every day.  It likes the fishing as the pond has  small and medium-sized fish and lots of frogs.  The big grey wading bird fishes by spearing its food with its long sharp bill.  It has great eye-sight and flies gracefully.

This heron roosts in the top of an evergreen tree near the pond.  It moved away from the nearby small lake because the tree where its rookery or nest was at, fell over last year during a furious storm.  So I have a window seat on the heron action.  I took these pictures on August 12, 2012 and again on August 14, 2012 in my yard.   Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

love the golds and greens in these shots. 🙂

    • Hi Theresa, I agree. The sunlight was at that perfect angle and reflected off the trees, rushes and reeds and the bird. Have an especially good coming weekend!

  2. Love them! I saw one on the river again today. I hope he will stay around awhile.

  3. Cool to watch the heron fishing. A great visitor to your pond.
