Perched Bluebirds

There are lots of Eastern Bluebirds around here at the moment.  I am glad.  They are beautiful, interesting, and quite beneficial as they are great insect-eaters.  Because I live directly across the pond from a cow pasture full of cattle, this bug-getting service that the birds do, is especially appreciated!

The juveniles are getting bluer every day.  They are losing the beige and brown spotted look and gaining a more apricot or orange color on their chest area.  Their backs will be a vivid blue with the males being a little brighter in hue and rounder in over-all shape.  They are really cute birds!  In that group shot (bottom right), there also is a female House Finch.  I took these pictures yesterday at twilight just before 7:00pm in my yard.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.

  1. It’s nice that you get to see the little ones develop! The blue birds here leave for other parts not long after the little ones have fledged.

  2. You are lucky to see the Bluebirds and the juveniles. They are so pretty. Hope you are having a great weekend.
