Hank the Wonder Heron

I took these pictures of the resident Great Blue Heron, Hank, on several afternoons this past year at the pond.  Here are a few pictures that I have never before posted.  The Great Blue Heron here comes and goes between the pond here, and the nearby lake.  There are about six ponds and four lakes very close by here so there are lots of places for this big wading bird to hunt for fish, frogs, and larger insects.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. That is wonderful you get to see Hank so often. We had a couple herons on the nearby creek, but once it dried up they moved on.

    • Hi Birding Bunch, Well, next rainy season and maybe in early Summer, you may see them return. I do hope so. Thanks for the outstanding comments! Have a fine day tomorrow! Happy Birding!

  2. i like the bottom middle one – sharp eyed among the weeds. 🙂

  3. I am sure hank is very happy with all the food that is around there. Great shots. Have a happy week ahead.

    • Hi Eileen, I thinks so. There are lots of fishing opportunities plus open fields here. Have an especially nice day tomorrow and thanks for all your great comments!

  4. Hank is a pretty smart bird! He knows where it is safe to hang out and where he is appreciated.
