The day was brighter but still breezy yesterday. I partially refilled the bird feeder as I am very low on seed. The smaller birds did not mind the quarter-filled feeder at all. I saw a few House Finches, a Tufted Titmouse and a pair of the nuthatches. This series of pictures today is on one of the White-breasted Nuthatches that came to the bird feeder in the afternoon. They are intelligent and interesting little birds.
The White-breasted Nuthatches are nearly woodpecker-like in looks and behavior. Perhaps that is why I like them so much. As you probably know, I am really crazy for the woodpeckers. So a pair of White-breasted Nuthatches does well as a substitute to watch when the woodpeckers fail to show up! I took these pictures on November 8, 2012 in my yard. sweet little guys. they’ll take whatever you give them, i’m sure!
Hi Theresa, Yes, they like the cheap seed I now buy. Beggars cannot be choosers! Now I sure hope the European Starlings don’t start coming to the feeder. I just saw a new group here. Have a nice Saturday tomorrow and thanks for your always great comments!
I really like these dears. We saw a bunch at the park today, but also have them at home. We believe it is a female who comes to our feeders. Oh, I hope the starlings move on. They can really eat up the food.
Hi Birding Bunch, Glad you have nuthatches. They are wonderful little birds – very amusing and “Chatty”. Have the best weekend and thanks for your insightful and interesting comments.
I love the in-flight shots! We have had cold weather move in and most of the birds have stayed away, probably staying in the thick brush out of the snow, but a few chickadees and some nuthatches did come for sunflower seeds. I love to see them too!
I love the cute Nuthatches, great shots of them at your feeders. I am seeing both the White-breasted and the Red-breasted Nuthatches and they are so much fun watching.
