Area Waterfowl

In the past few days I have again seen “Hank” the resident Great Blue Heron here at the little farm pond.  I also have spotted a handsome drake or male Ring Necked Duck, a few Canada Geese, and a pair of really nice Mallard Ducks.  The Ring Necked Duck was paddling on the little private community lake that is across the street from my home here.  The Ring Necked Duck is a migratory visitor and likely a scout duck for a larger flock on its way here from up North.  The Canada Goose is a member of the resident flock at the Cumberland Mountain State Park here in Crossville, TN.  The Canada Geese there at the state park seem to be rather fond of people and are outstanding beggars.  I took these pictures on Nov. 13, 20012, and again on November 14, 2012.  Please click on the thumbnail images to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. Terrific waterfowl, Linda… I love seeing the Geese at the Cumberland Mtn. State Park. You are right. They are BEGGARS… ha

    • Hi Betsy, It is such a comical sight to see the flock of Canada Geese there at the state park rush over from the other side of the lake so as to get a possible treat (so sorry no treat from us). When we walked away from the lake, another couple arrived so maybe they fed the geese, who knows? I try not to feed wild animals. Just sayin’ Have a super weekend!

  2. i’ve had the pleasure of seeing only 2 ring-necked ducks here at run*a*round. i hope some will stop in this winter. 🙂

    • Hi Theresa, I have only seen this single drake Ring Necked here so far. So happy for you that you have had Ring Necked Ducks around your place once in awhile. Hope you see more! Have a great weekend!

  3. Nice shot of Hank!

    • Hi Montucky, Thanks! It sure was hard to get that picture. The heron was hiding in the reeds and rushes and would put his head down a lot so I could not see him. Have a great weekend!

  4. It is nice that Hank is stilling hanging around! I love the ringneck ducks. I am looking forward to seeing some of our winter ducks. Have a lovely weekend!
