A flock of Eastern Bluebirds has been here the past few days.  I have been seeing upwards of a dozen of the beautiful blue orange and ivory-colored songbirds.  They have been out hunting for insects and grubs in the grassy pastures, in the Oaks, and around the pond.  Our weather had been cold but we have had a brief warm-up for the past two days.  Our temperature is around 68 degrees F. which is almost record warmth for our area at this time of the year.  The Bluebirds are enjoying the warmer weather.  I hope that the birds and plants won’t believe it is already Spring.  Along with the Bluebirds, there also have been several beautiful House Finches (reddish-brown colored birds) I took these pictures on Jan. 10, 2013 in my yard.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

    • Hi Betsy, Yes, indeed, we are expecting a bit of rain. We have had Ring-necked Ducks here today! Very exciting to see Northern visitors. The Bluebirds are around and are entertaining, too! Have a great evening and day tomorrow and enjoy our warm if breezy and moist weather.

  2. It is to be over 70 here today, but I bet we STILL will see no bluebirds!

    • Hi Ginny, We have been unusually warm here in the mid-60’s but it has been a grey drizzle-kind of day. It is supposed to get a lot colder in a few days and might snow Tues. PM. Who can say! I sure do hope you get to see Bluebirds! Have a great Sunday tomorrow!

  3. The bluebirds are my all time favorite birds. I just love them, great shots! I hope you are having a happy weekend.

  4. Grass and bluebirds are many months away for me … thanks for reminding me what Spring will look like.

    • Hi Bearyweather, Glad you enjoyed seeing your little blue and orange Springtime buddies. Hope you have a flock you way early this Spring. Have a super nice Sunday and thanks for your always interesting comments!

  5. I see the wisdom of the bluebirds spending their winter there where it is relatively quite warm. I’m amazed that any birds at all can survive the colder temperatures of our northern states.
