A small flock of Ring-necked Ducks have returned to both the nearby small private lake and the little farm pond here.  These are migratory Winter and early Spring visitors to this region.  The drakes are the ones with the tuxedo markings of white and black.  The hens are a medium and dark brown with the same markings as the drakes but in the different color and tones.  These are diving ducks that eat aquatic insects, pond vegetation, and very small aquatic animals and fish.  I took these pictures on Jan. 10, 2013 and again on Jan. 13, 2013 in my yard and from the street across from my driveway (overlooking the lake).  I don’t have lake access so those shots of the flock were from a long way away using the long lens.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!
