Canada Geese just seem to take cold weather in stride.  There is a resident small group of about eight Canada Geese that are here often.  These geese likely are the same birds that were hatched here in May, 2012.  The geese were here this past weekend when I took these pictures from my living room window.  It was very cold here and snowed off and on.  The snow would sublimate or melt and then more snow would fall.  Sometimes the grass would be green and sometimes there was a crust of the white stuff.  The temperature was just at freezing almost all day.

The geese did not seem to mind the snow but I do think that they did not appreciate the cold winds that blew on Saturday afternoon here.  I know I did not enjoy it at all!  The geese are grain and plant eating birds.  They love new grass and will graze on lawns or pastures to eat that newly grown grass.  By the way, it is raining heavily today and snow is expected tonight and tomorrow.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. For some reason, your weather is EXACTLY like ours… ha ha ….. With all of this heavy rain, my birds are really flocking to the feeders. They must know that more snow is on the way… Guess Ole Man Winter is not finished with us yet…

Great pictures of your resident geese.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

    • Hi Betsy, Funny thing, isn’t it? Yes, I am about 10 miles from you so we do have almost the same weather. High winds today, too! By the way, Red-head Ducks on several lakes in your area yesterday. Some on Spring and some on St. Geo. Easy to see the ones on Spring but not so easy to see the ones on St. Geo. as they are around the marina area. Have a wonderful day tomorrow and bundle up!

  2. Love your geese shots… The weatherman here is calling for us to get hit with a big snow storm the next to two days. I will wait and see, they have been wrong before. I am so ready for spring. Have a happy day and week ahead!

    • Hi Eileen, Thanks! Yes, a blustery cold day here. Snowing lightly late tonight. You will probably have a bit of snow your way in coming days. Have a great day tomorrow and thanks for your always insightful comments.
