A Cotton-tailed Rabbit has been visiting the yards of the row of homes that I live among.  I was quite surprised to spot the bunny sitting in the St. Augustine grass lawn, in the back yard,  just about five feet from a neighbor’s home.  On June 29, 2013, I again saw the rabbit (or its look-alike) right up against another close neighbor’s house!  Prior to about a week ago, I had not seen rabbits within a half-mile of my home.

My husband told me, much to my great surprise, that he had seen that same rabbit go up onto my other next door neighbor’s porch earlier that day!  So, the resident Grey Squirrels have a new friend here.  I will likely have to put up a short rabbit fence around any above ground planter boxes I may plan to have in my patio area, for growing vegetables.  I took these pictures in my yards on June 25, 2013, and again on June 29, 2013.   Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. We haven’t seen many rabbits here this summer so far. BUT–we still have tons of squirrels and chipmunks. AND–we’re having alot of trouble keeping the deer away from our yard/flowers/plants this summer. We’ve had so much rain that the Liquid Fence we use is getting washed away…. But–we’ll keep on keeping on.

Can’t believe it is July 1st. Where did June go? Overall, we had a mild June this year. Hope July is the same… HA HA

Been on vacation for 2 weeks… Hope you all are doing fine.

    • Hi Betsy, It’s the rainy season here so we do get our occasional showers (and a few T storms, but nothing terrible) almost daily. I get out between rains to take pictures. So sorry about your deer. That area does attract munchers. I have not yet seen any Chipmunks or Deer here in FL. Supposedly there are deer in a nearby town at the park along the river. Who knows? All good here. Have a super day!

  2. I could do without the squirrels but I do love the bunnies! They do not eat all my bird seed like the squirrels! Cute photos! Have a happy day!

  3. I love that first photo of the rabbit! The squirrel looks nice and trim.

    • Hi Montucky, I like that picture too. The bunny was trying to do it’s thing as if it did not notice me. I think I was on my porch less than 20 ft. from it. That’s how it goes here. One surprise after another for this new Floridian! Have a fine day today and thanks for your always welcome comments!

  4. such cute little varmints!

    • Hi Theresa, Yes, they are! I sat on my front porch early this evening while it was raining lightly and watched the bunny munch on some grass across the street. That rabbit certainly has been making itself comfortable around here. Maybe it will stay. Hope you have a great day tomorrow!

  5. You sure are getting more and more little friends! I actually used to plant carrots just to draw the rabbits, people thought I was crazy! We have lots of rabbits around here, they have warrens everywhere! Have you read Watership Down? It is a classic about rabbits, it is so good!!!

    • Hi Ginny, Saw that same bunny across the street on a lawn earlier tonight. No, I have never read Watership Down. Thanks for that suggestion. Have a fabulous day tomorrow!

  6. Watership Down is indeed worth reading- handsome furry friends you have, Wildlifewatcher!
