Masked Boobies, a tropical sea-bird, were spotted at sea near Limon, Costa Rica. These birds are mostly the same size or a little larger than many Sea Gulls. Masked Boobies are white and black, have yellow eyes, and have a yellow bill and light orange-yellow feet (If my identification is mistaken, let me know).
Boobies fly across the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. These Boobies live on Caribbean islands, and along the shorelines of countries in Central America and Northern areas of South America. Boobies eat fish and dive almost straight down into the ocean in search of their meal of smaller fish. I took these pictures on the ship on October 31, 2013. how very cool! i’ve seen lots of photos of the blue-footed variety but not these. thanks for sharing!
Hi Theresa, Funny you would mention the Blue-footed Booby. I had seen pictures from Southern California mentioning that Blue-footed Boobies had been spotted near Los Angeles a few weeks ago. These Masked Boobies are really neat! Have an especially nice day today!
Great photos of a beautiful bird. I’ve never seen one—other than photos. So glad you captured these.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi Betsy, These Boobies were the first of these birds i had seen. There were about four individual birds that flew along near the ship. We were quite a way out at sea from Limon, Costa Rica. Have a great day tomorrow!
I had to laugh at your title. The Boobies are cool birds. I got to see one flying by while visiting Panama. Great shots! Wishing you a happy week ahead!
Hi Eileen, My hubby suggested it. I had to laugh as well but yes, it grabbed attention. I am shameless! Ha! Glad you also got to spot one. Have an excellent day!
Very nice that you were able to see and photograph them!
Hi Montucky, This was one of those lucky circumstances where I was in the right spot to get the picture. They are neat birds! Have a super nice day today!
