Paynes Prairie Heron

This Great Blue Heron was sighted at the Paynes Prairie State Park near Gainesville, Florida.  It was standing in the shallow water in the Cattails, and grasses.  It likely was trying to hunt for a small frog, or turtle.  This area is in a fresh water marsh.  There was quite a lot of water in the area because of recent heavy rains.

This park has a very large expanse of wild land marsh.  There are a lot of wading birds around now.  I was very happy to have spotted this heron.  I took the pictures on December 16, 2013.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. That must be a paradise for Herons! I really like your photos of them in flight!

    • Hi Montucky, Thanks about the flight pictures. Yes, I think so about the herons having a great place to be at. Lots of wading birds there at that park. Big place with lots of grassy marshes, solid ground, a lot of low trees in spots and varied animals. Have a super good weekend!

  2. beautiful flight shot.

    • Hi Theresa, Thank you. This heron was swift but flew low and slow for a long distance so I was able to shoot good pictures with my long zoom lens. Have a wonderful Saturday tomorrow!

  3. Lovely captures of the Heron. Great flight shots! Enjoy your weekend! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
