Pond Turtles at the Park

Turtles are really interesting creatures.  I spotted these smaller turtles basking on the bank of the small Koi pond at our local park.  As a few people came close to the group, the turtles decided to head to the water.  This was the first time I had seen a group of turtles at this pond.

I am not sure which kind of turtle these are.  They may be Box Turtles or maybe Sliding Turtles.  I think these reptiles are doing a great job of steering clear of the family of Great Blue Herons that share this scenic horticultural park.  I took these pictures on April 10, 2014.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. so cute. look like some sort of painted or sliding turtle to me. 🙂

  2. Neat little turtles, Linda… I heard a frog ‘singing’ out back last night… Guess they think Summer is coming. It has been very warm for the past few days (almost 80) —BUT the bottom is going to drop out tonight/tomorrow… We are under a freeze watch —with snow showers predicted…GAD!

    • Hi Betsy, Glad you weather recently has been nice – sorry that it will get cold again. It was 84 degrees F. here today. Have a pleasant, if chilly, day tomorrow!

  3. It is nice to have these warms days and to see the turtles sunning themselves.. Great shots!
    Have a happy week!

  4. They have a great place to sun themselves there! Happy turtles!
