My husband, son, and I went on a day trip to Cedar Key, FL on the Gulf of Mexico yesterday. We saw a lot of wildlife! Here are just a few of the birds I saw. I will post more pictures in coming days. Cedar Key is a tiny island very close to the mainland (you get to it via a short bridge).
The Cedar Key area is teaming with wildlife. I saw a Bald Eagle, a pair of Osprey, two Wood Storks, several herons, egrets, and many other birds! I took these pictures at or very close to Cedar Key (West of Ocala) on November 16, 2014. Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture. Enjoy!

What a great variety of birds! I would love to see the shore birds again.
Hi Montucky, No shortage on the “Nature coast” as that undeveloped and protected stretch of the Gulf coast is called. Most towns are just hamlets due to hurricanes and the big amount of U.S. and FL parklands (marshes). Have a great week!
I’m sure you enjoyed Cedar Key…. I lived in Venice for about 4 yrs back in the ’70’s —and I’ve been to Cedar Key even though it was a long time ago. Back then, I was not into wildlife or birds though… Too busy keeping up with three little boys. ha
Great pictures…
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi Betsy, Glad you also have been to the Cedar Key area. Fun and easy to get to from our place as it is less than 100 miles from us. Lots of marshes around and from what I see, pretty popular with fishermen. Yes, chasing after your boys would be a happy distraction from the wildlife. It is stormy here today – probably because of your chilly weather up in TN. Have a good week and stay warm.
awesome! looking forward to seeing more! love the brown pelican shot!
Hi Theresa, Thanks! We had a really fun afternoon there at Cedar Key. Yes, I will post more pictures of the birds from that area and a critter you know very well in TX (slow and often as not, dead on the road). The pelicans must be used to seeing people at the marina because they just sit on the pilings and don’t get flustered by people doing activities. Have a great coming week!
oh, that’s got to be an armadillo. 🙂
