A Cedar Key Osprey

DSC_5787 - Version 2

I watched this Osprey (also known as a Sea Hawk) fly up to the top of an electric pole at Cedar Key, with a fish in its talons.  The Osprey then began to eat its meal.  While taking these pictures, I was standing in a parking lot pretty close to the pole where the bird was perched.

The Osprey was concentrating on eating and was not worried about the presence of people very much.  I took these pictures on November 15, 2014 at the marina area near the fire station, on Cedar Key, Florida.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. I saw something similar in Maine, an eagle with a freshly caught brown trout, followed by a crow in hot pursuit. It was one on the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. You are so luck to have gotten a photo!

  2. wow! big fish! good for him!

  3. Pretty cool to see that! He got a good sized fish too!

  4. Wow—you probably took a trillion pictures at Cedar Key/vacinity…. The Osprey is a great find…. Thanks so much for sharing.

What are you going to do to top that trip???? ha

    • Hi Betsy, Not quite a trillion but I did take a few over 400! So glad that I do not need to pay for film development with a digital camera. : ) Have a really great day tomorrow!
