Blue Winged Teal Ducks

This flock of Blue Winged Teal ducks was spotted on a large pond in Levy County, Florida on November 15, 2014.  I was traveling back from my adventure at Cedar Key and saw this flock on the water a bit of distance from the highway.  I believe this is a migratory flock of Teals.  There were about twenty-five or so ducks on the water while I was there.

Of course, seeing the ducks, I had to stop and take some snap-shots.  The drakes or males, have the white crescent on their cheeks above the bill,  but the females do not have this distinctive marking.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!  Have a happy Thanksgiving!

    • Hi Eileen, I had seen the flock once before when we happened by that area but we could not stop then. I reminded my hubby that I wanted to see if the ducks were still there and lo and behold they were! Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

  3. Hi Friend, Just stopping by to say Happy Thanksgiving to you. Even in places where Thanksgiving is not celebrated (or celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November like ours is) —it can be a time for each of us to take time to thank God for our blessings and also not to forget the “Giving” in the word, ThanksGIVING. We all have lots of blessings —but many times, we ignore the giving part….Not just on Thanksgiving Day, but all of the time, please take time to contact family/friends just to say HI… And remember that a big SMILE can lift someone’s day…. Little things like that can really HELP..

Your photos of the Blue Winged Teal Ducks are TERRIFIC… Thanks for sharing.

    God Bless…
    Happy Thanksgiving.

  4. Hi all, I happened to be driving by this pond this afternoon and did not see the ducks so it was fortunate that I got these pictures when I did instead of waiting for a different opportunity. I hope they are winging their way to happy warm waters.
