Here are a female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, a female Downy Woodpecker, and the boisterous Red-bellied Woodpecker. All were spotted in my yard or in a almost dead pine tree across the street. I really am thrilled to be once again seeing songbirds here. Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture. Enjoy!

This blog is about enjoying the majesty and beauty of the animals and nature around us. While I appreciate wildlife and animal advocacy groups, this blog is not the spot to espouse causes but to celebrate wildlife.

Great woodpecker post and sightings ! I love all the woodies.. Have a happy Wednesday!
Hi Eileen, Glad you also enjoy the woodpeckers! I have had a very few around so I am glad to see them whenever they show up. No Redheads this year so far but I have not given up. There is a small herd of cattle in that pasture where the Redheads had been living two Winters ago. Have a great Thurs. tomorrow!
i know you love the woodpeckers! congrats on the sapsucker! i really have to look hard to find them here. 🙂
Hi Theresa, The Sapsuckers are not around here much. Additionally, they blend into the bark so well, they become really hard to see. I usually notice the woodpeckers by either their calls or that pecking. Have a great day tomorrow and thanks for your nice comments!
Take care of the woodies! I will look froward to their summer visit here in about 6 months.
Hello There, I enjoyed your post today. My noisy Red-bellied who has been with us for many years has now switched from the feeders in the back to the ones in the front yard… He never goes to the back anymore…???? (Maybe it’s a different Red-Bellied…???)
Sorry I haven’t been around much lately. I do try to read blogs—but just haven’t commented very much lately like I usually try to do. Please don’t give up on me. Hopefully my life will be back to ‘normal’— whatever that is (ha), sometime in January.
I did get a cortisone shot in my knee —which has helped with the pain somewhat. In January, I will most likely have meniscus tear surgery…. BUT—in the meantime, I plan to have a fantastic Christmas —and hopefully get to see my kids/grands… God is Good.
Hugs,
Betsy
