A pair of Pileated Woodpeckers, a Red-bellied Woodpecker, and a Downy Woodpecker were all spotted at Blue Run Park in Dunnellon, Florida, on February 16, 2015. I also saw a Red-bellied Woodpecker at the Dutton Island Preserve near Jacksonville, Florida, on February 11, 2015; and a Downy Woodpecker at the Guana River State Park on Highway A-1A between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, Florida on February 12, 2015. i know you love them all. 🙂 i just saw a pileated on our power pole, checking out the hole they dug in it last year that the bluebirds had nested in last summer. wondering if they’re looking to expand it…
Hi Theresa, The woodpeckers love power poles due to that drumming they do. Sounds very loud because of the dry wood and metal on the pole. The woodpeckers use the holes to stash their food away for future consumption. They also build nests. Yes I think it is likely they will try to expand that cavity. Hope they do not chase Bluebirds off. Have a great day tomorrow!
They are all pretty, but you just can’t beat that red head!
Hi Montucky, I agree! Have a great day tomorrow!
Good Morning, I love all the woodies too. Great sightings and photos.. Have a happy day!
Hi Eileen, Thanks! I will have a post about yard birds here (not many sad to say) tomorrow. I have been focusing on large birds because I see more of ’em. Have a pleasant day and stay warm!
