Cedar Waxwings

Cedar Waxwings

Cedar Waxwings, Boat-tailed Grackles, Northern Cardinals, and of course, White Ibises all have visited along the street here where I live in recent weeks.  It is always surprising to see which bird (and squirrel) is around!  The Grey Squirrels are usually well-behaved but on occasion, they do walk gingerly across my front screened porch screening.  No holes and that is a status I hope continues.

The Ibises are gentle and unfortunately easily frightened when grazing on lawns (not so when begging at the local park lakes).  Occasionally we also have Eastern Blue Jays, Carolina Wrens, Northern Mockingbirds, and Palm Warblers around but they are pretty rarely seen (same for Bluebirds, Crows, and hawks or vultures).  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the slightly larger picture.  Enjoy!

  1. cute squirrel. and lucky you on the waxwings!

    • Hi Tex, I like squirrels which is why I tolerate occasional forays on my front porch screen wall. Yes, I am really happy to occasionally also see big numbers of Cedar Waxwings here. Have a pleasant day tomorrow! Thanks for your great comments!

  2. Cool how the squirrel got into the photos along with the birds!

    • Hi Montucky, Guess he or she wants to be part of the fun! Ha! I don’t mind the occasional run but hope it won’t be destructive. I think all will be fine. I am so happy to see all this wildlife here. Saw a “Great White Heron” today at our local lake, and will post pix tomorrow! Have a truly nice day tomorrow. I always appreciate your comments and contributions!

  3. Hello, I love the waxwings. I wish I saw them more often around here. The Ibis are another favorite. I hope the squirrels behave and do not ruin your screen. Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

    • Hi Eileen, Saw a few White Ibises here today but then I also saw someone come up in a golf cart on the street behind us, and was feeding those Ibises. Can’t win! Oh well. Folks don’t understand. Have a great day tomorrow!

  4. Hi There, I haven’t seen Cedar Waxwings in a long time… They are gorgeous birds… So glad you have them there.

Do you miss Tennessee? I think my hubby might enjoy living in Florida (or somewhere down south) –but I would hate it most of the year… I’m just a mountain girl I guess –since I grew up in Southwest VA….

    Hugs,
    Betsy

    • Hi Betsy, Yes, I do but not enough to live there in the Winter months. Frankly, the idea of being a snowbird does not appeal to me. I love living here in my new area – so much to do and low cost of living. I think the bonus is the mostly good weather. I grew up in Southern California so I love warm weather. Have a great weekend! P.S. You would enjoy the wildlife here.
