A family of Northern Cardinal birds has made its home in the shrubbery along my street here recently.  The neighbor’s bird feeder and bird bath are big draws for a lot of songbirds now.  It has been hot and stormy so the birds like to grab a snack and cool off in that inviting bird bath water.

The cardinals eat seeds and sometimes enjoy an insect or two but mostly are seed and nut eating birds.  A more distant neighbor on the next street over has a small flower garden with a couple of Sunflowers that are now blooming.  The birds are really going to go wild over that!  So many lovely little songbirds now.  I am enjoying getting to do some bird watching in between thunderstorms!  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the slightly larger version of that particular photo.  Enjoy!

  1. What beautiful birds! I see only a couple here every year. You are fortunate to have so many!

    • Hi Montucky, Yes, the Northern Cardinals seem to be Midwestern and Eastern birds. We have several breeding pairs here in the neighborhood. I enjoy seeing a big variety of birds here – big and small. Glad you occasionally see Northern Cardinals. Have a great weekend!

  2. Hello, pretty series on the Cardinal. The food and water are great to have to attract the songbirds. The birds do love the sunflower seeds. I hope the storms are not too bad. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

    • Hi Eileen, No, no bad storms here just a lot of noise. The rain is good for the yards and the lakes so I don’t mind much. The birds do go crazy for those black sunflower seeds. I saw the waterfowl at the lake under a bird feeder that one of the geese pushes and loosens seeds from (hitting the pole and shaking seeds down for the mob to eat!). Funny to see a bunch of ducks, ibis, geese, and cormorants eating on a lawn. Have a great Sunday tomorrow.

  3. i like when the juveniles start learning their way around. 🙂

    • Hi Tex, Yes, the former chicks are now looking like real birds and navigating the neighborhood nicely. Thanks for your always great comments. Have a wonderful day!
