Wonderful Wood Storks!

dsc_9217

We had a large storm here last week and many new birds have shown up in our location in recent days.  I spotted the Wood Storks  at our local park lake near Boone Park, and also at Lake Mira Mar, here in the Villages, FL.

Wood Storks are such wonderful big birds.  The Wood Storks feed by wading in shallow water and scooping through the mud to find snails, worms, aquatic insects and frogs to eat.  These white and black birds will often fly many miles from their nests to find food.  I am so glad whenever I spot Wood Storks here.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see a slightly larger version of the picture.  Enjoy!

  2. Amazing, almost wood sculptures!

    • Hi Navaslanature, Yes, very sculptural looking birds. These birds tend to be pretty placid and still. The Wood Storks almost look like they are curious about people and are studying us. Ha! I enjoy seeing these rare birds as lot. More and more seem to be around Lake and Sumter Counties in The Villages. Have a great weekend!

  3. so prehistoric looking. 🙂

  4. Very interesting birds. I can see how they got their name.
