Adult Southern Bald Eagle

The Southern Bald Eagle family that I photographed a couple of weeks ago has had both juveniles fledge and fly but one seems to like hanging around the nest area a bit.  I suspect that this is the younger eagle.  One of the parents was perched on the next power pole down the row about a quarter-mile from the juvenile.

No sign of the older juvenile or the other parent eagle.  I really have enjoyed following the growth of this family of Southern Bald Eagles here in the Rio Grande area of The Villages.  This nest is East of Morse and South of Rio Grande – basically in the neighborhood behind the preserve marsh (Power line easement is easy to follow).  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the slightly larger version of the picture.  Enjoy!

    • Hi Kelly, Thanks! I have a lot of fun going out and about here to watch birds and other wildlife. There is a lot to see around. Florida is a bird paradise! I am fortunate. Have a wonderful coming week!

      • Yes, it is a fantastic place for bird watching. IT has been several years since I was there but I am sure I will return before too long. I will look forward to more post from you.

  1. It’s good to see them! I remember the days when they were threatened, and now seem to be doing very well.

    • Hi Montucky, Yes, the bad old DDT days are well past and the Bald Eagles are on the good come-back. It is so nice we have several breeding pairs here. Have a super day!

  2. What a wonderful experience. Hope the young one survives.
