Just another WordPress.com weblog about Nature and Wildlife

An Alligator which I am calling the ‘gator “Hacienda Harry”, and a Great Egret were spotted in the Hacienda Golf Course Pond in The Villages, Florida near the multi-modal path that leads to Panama Drive.  I have seen the alligator there in the pond several times and usually on the far end closest to the multi-modal path and the group of trees on the shore.   I saw this alligator lounging on the shoreline this afternoon (no camera) and yes, it is five feet in length.

I also spotted this Great Egret perched on the top of one of the Cypress Trees in the same area.  This bird was particularly hot as it had its bill open to cool itself.  We have a lot of small ponds and small lakes here were water birds and yes, sometimes, alligators may be spotted.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the slightly larger version of the picture.  Enjoy!

  1. I had hoped to see an alligator when I was in Florida, but no luck. Maybe I’ll find an alligator weathervane… I post them.

    • Hi Jeanne, I am surprised you did not see any alligators – those animals seem to be in a lot of our ponds and lakes here. Hope some day you do get to see one. Have a great day tomorrow!

  2. Jeanne, No, I have never been to Savannah. It is a place I have intended to see some day. Thanks for your very nice comments! Have a great day. Linda (Wildlifewatcher)
