Wildlife at Tideviews Preserve, Atlantic Beach, FL

I was just in Atlantic Beach, FL and saw the lovely Tideviews Preserve there.  This area is a suburb of Jacksonville, FL and is right on a large river and very close to the Atlantic Ocean.  This is basically a brackish tideland marsh.

I saw a lot of tiny crabs along the path in the dirt and a few on the boardwalk.  They scattered when I approached.   I also spotted a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron; and several Great Egrets while I was there at about 10:30am which was an incoming tide towards a high tide.  I have been told that many more birds can be seen there during the low tide, including Roseate Spoonbills.  So, perhaps the next time I am there I will hope to go during a low or even minus tide.  It was a fun visit even though I did not see very many birds.
