The Villages, Florida, has some spectacular and unexpected wildlife! River Otters, small Alligators, Great Blue Herons, freshwater turtles, Anhingas a Grey Squirrel, and a King Bird were all spotted at the scenic boardwalk area of Fenney Springs in the newer Southern section of The Villages, FL yesterday, 11/24/19.
So wonderful seeing all this while walking along a quarter-mile stretch of boardwalk above the actual springs. This park with nature preserve, is adjacent to the Fenney Recreation Center in the area near Wildwood, Florida in The Villages. I took these pictures of what I believe to be a King Bird in the trees of my yards and down the street recently. The Kingbird has a buff to white under-belly with grey-brown feathers on its back. There is a tip of white on the tail feathers. The Kingbird loves catching gnats and flies to eat. The Kingbirds here swoop all around the Hickories, Oaks, Dogwoods, and Walnut trees. We had quite a few in a visiting flock here about 2 weeks ago with fewer in the recent days. We have had bad weather here in the past few days with very heavy rains. We also have many more leaves on our trees week by week. It is getting tougher to spot the birds as many are nesting or are hiding behind leaves.
