Views of Wildlife on a Rainy Tuesday

Yesterday I was out walking in the yard and  in front of our place here.  The first bird I saw was the Mourning Dove which perched on the electric line.  The interesting sighting of the afternoon was the Grey Squirrel that scampered out to the road.  It then scooted right across the pavement to a nearby grove of Oaks.  The squirrel had a Hickory Nut in its mouth.  I seldom see any squirrels here so it was a nice sighting.

Canada Geese were  here on the pond.  I accidentally spooked those geese and off they flew.  I wanted to see how things were at the small private community lake across the street and down a small hill.  I noticed that there were a number of Canada Geese there so I snapped away.  I took these pictures on Sept. 18, 2012.    Today I am thrilled to tell you that we have sunny skies and mild cool temperatures here.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!

Backyard Views of Birds, Animals, and Waterfowl on 10-17-10

These images are fresh from my camera this very morning.  When I went outside on my back deck this morning to take some pictures, I was so happy to see a lot of birds.  I saw a number of birds such as a Pileated Woodpecker, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Bluebird, Eastern Blue Jays, Mourning Dove, Carolina Chickadees, and White-Breasted Nuthatches.  I also noticed that the Grey Squirrels and Chipmunks were busily harvesting acorns, seeds, and berries.  On the lake, I took a couple of pictures of a female (hen) Wood Duck.  That Wood Duck soon noticed me, and flew off as fast as her wings could fly!  The Wood Ducks are ever-so-shy.  Fall is definitely here as you can see from all the gorgeous colors in the leaves here.  This explosion of color just really happened in the past week.  I am enjoying the colors while I can as the leaves are falling fast.  Please click on the thumbnail version to see the larger photo.  Enjoy!

A Sampling of Snapshots

Here are some of the snapshots I took while on a stroll down my street this past Mon. April 19, 2010.  The Birds and Squirrels were so cute.  The European Starlings are medium sized brown or shiny blue-black birds with a sort of crackly hissy whistle call.  The Starlings compete with Woodpeckers for both homes and food.

I enjoyed my walk and got some fun exercise, too!  I especially like the picture I took of the Squirrel with the Mourning Dove.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger version of that snapshot.
