Almost Wordless Wednesday: Songbirds in the Yard

Palm Warbler

Finally, I am starting to see our migratory songbirds here!  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the slightly larger version of these photos I took on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018.  Enjoy!

Palm Warblers, Eastern Bluebirds, and a lone Tufted Titmouse were spotted in the past week here in my neighborhood.  One of the Palm Warblers was seen below ornamental grass at  Paradise Park in The Villages, FL.  The other birds were in my own yards.  It is great to see all the newly arriving songbirds who have migrated here for the Winter!  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the slightly larger version of that photo.  Enjoy!

Songbird Sightings

Northern Mockingbird

Northern Mockingbird

A Northern Mockingbird, juvenile male Northern Cardinal, a sweet Morning Dove, and a Palm Warbler in the grass were all spotted along my street this last weekend.  Not much going on other than the big wading birds and ducks on the ever-shrinking local park lakes (I have seen a large number of Seagulls in recent days on the water).  It has been quite windy and cooler here.  We are also in a drought which is not helping matters.  Hopefully rain is in the forecast here in coming days.  Wishing everyone a very happy 2017!  Happy birding!

A pair of Northern Mockingbirds has decided to build their new nest in one of the local shrubs.  I love hearing the two sing!  Such melodies they have.  The two have been collecting grasses, sticks and soft tender plants to line the new nest.  I think they will be laying eggs soon.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger version of that photo.  Enjoy!

Bird Bath Fun!

DSC_2290 - 2013-04-11 at 15-17-50

These Tufted Titmice certainly enjoyed the refreshing cool water in my next door neighbor’s bird bath a few days ago.  The weather was quite hot that day and I am sure the birds just really loved dunking and cooling off!  This bird bath is also a popular spot for Crows Bluebirds, Cardinals, Warblers and Carolina Wrens to bathe or drink.  My neighbors work hard to keep cool water in the bird bath and keep it clean.  That’s important for the birds and keeps mosquito larvae from growing.  There actually were three Tufted Titmice bathing but only two were on or in the bath at once.  I took these pictures from my yard on April 11, 2013.  Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger picture.  Enjoy!
