I took these pictures of an American Coot and a charming pair of Wood Ducks a couple of days ago here on the neighborhood lake. The birds are compatible and seemed to not mind being together. The couple look rather romantic and the Coot is just following along. Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger version of the picture. Enjoy!

I took these photographs of Drake (Male) Mallard Ducks on the lake at dawn yesterday. Please click on the thumbnail photo to see the larger image. Enjoy!
This Canada Goose was hanging around the Marina at our neighborhood lake. The goose apparently gets snack hand-outs from visiting tourists. The goose hangs out around the pleasure boat docks in hope of getting a free meal. I was able to snap a few pictures because the goose has become used to people and people taking pictures. Most of the Canada Geese here are not tame at all. Almost all of the waterbirds here are very shy and stay well away from people. This particular bird was being given bread by a tourist when I had arrived. I don’t advocate feeding geese. Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger version. Enjoy!
The Bufflehead Ducks here are migratory and will be heading back up North in the coming weeks. I have been trying to get photographs of these very beautiful white and black ducks while I still can do so locally. Here are the latest set of photographs I took this week. The birds were all the way across a small lake about a mile from my home. I had to use a telephoto lens but still could not get super clear shots. The ducks also are diving ducks and often would duck under the water just as I was going to take the picture. I will keep trying to get closer to the very shy little beauties! Yesterday afternoon was a rainy one but that did not stop those hungry songbirds! I was thrilled to take pictures of the stunningly beautiful finches that graced the deck feeder. The red male finch is a House Finch and the yellow male is an aptly named Gold Finch. Both are seed eaters and just love the Millet, and Sunflower seed mix. They did not seem to take any of the Corn that was also in the feeder. This is the first time I have had these birds here. This fat fellow is a Squirrel that has been coming to the deck for “Squirrel-O-La” feed on a fairly regular basis. He and his furry little friends had been raiding the bird feeder so we decided to provide some raw sunflower seeds, peanuts, and dried corn kernels for supplemental food. This guy is a charmer for certain! I took these pictures three days ago on my back deck. Please click on the thumbnail image to see the larger photo. Enjoy!
